"The Secret's in the Sauce..."

Quick!

What does a famous fast food chain and Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven" franchise have in common?

  • Well, Rick Warren has a "secret sauce" that's deadly to the life of the Church (well, ok, it's not that secret but it's certainly subliminal).
  • It certainly could be called a "convenience religion" that is more concerned with "serving" than "saving".
  • Warren learned his stuff from the founder of a "drive in" church, the liberal psychologist/"pastor" Robert Schuller.

So what's this all about?

It's about "Redefining Christianity" by Bob DeWaay. Bob discusses Rick Warren's "Purpose Driven" agenda, theology and methodology and helps us understand how it is laced with New Age concepts and other bad theology. It is a 15 part discussion of Bob's book of the same title. I highly recommend it as part of a nutritional spiritual diet!

On the menu of the many other documented things you'll learn:

  • How Rick's "private" theology differs from his public theology and how you too can "have it both ways".
  • How Rick Warren uses whatever aberrant modern translation to serve his "purpose".
  • How Rick publically dodges clear opportunities to proclaim Jesus Christ as The Way, The Truth and The Life to the exclusion of any other 'pathway to God'.
  • Why anyone from most any religion can come away from "The Purpose Driven Life" with the conviction that it fits his or her religion quite nicely, thank you!

    bon appétit!
*NOTE: Since posting this it's come to my attention that oneplace.com doesn't have the complete series available. Bob DeWaay has informed me that his ministry is rebroadcasting them and that they are available on his ministry website. Go there and look for "Radio" down the left of the page under "Redefining Christianity".

Rick Warren has perverted the real Gospel and is spreading a false Gospel.

Many of my fellow Southern Baptists have swallowed his deceit and put him on a pedestal. Its a pathetic sight.

Rick Warren is a liar.

So glad to see Christians shooting their own - makes the enemy's job that much easier.

Let's see -- Rick Warren was willing to be used by God to impact many people's lives...but it doesn't line up with your view so he's a liar and has damaged the church.

No, Rick Warren is misleading the church because he's teaching falsehoods. The fact that he "doesn't line up with our view" doesn't mean a thing on its own. It's a matter of what God has plainly said in His Word.

Amen, Tim.

Acts 20 : 30 says “Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.” Shouldn’t we be watching for this? When one of these men does arise might he look something like RW? And how do you discern if he is speaking perverse things or speaking biblically? By comparing what comes out of his mouth with scripture. In the Bible, I find that I am not to love the world. From RW, I find that loving the world is ok and I can even sing ‘Purple Haze’ on a stage before my worshippers (oh, I mean the congregation) – just because I’ve always wanted to.

What I find shocking is that the post reports that the movement includes New Age ideas but those who apparently follow Rick Warren don't seem to have any interest in questioning that claim. This is especially troublesome if objections to this information are coming from someone who professes to be a Christian. Something is wrong somewhere along the line -- either the person thinks New Age is ok or they don't care to check to see if the claims made about Warren and his movement are true due to blind allegiance.

This is precisely what Bob DeWaay said about his book from which this information comes. People would condemn it but never deal with the claims. Nothing but Ad Hominem attacks.

And isn't that how the devil works? God brings up specifics, the enemy just condemns. You see this ad hominem stuff and nothing such as "On page 53, this is where Bob is not right" or "On June 13th of this year hear is a documented case of where Rick Warren spoke at a Jewish synogogue and proclaimed why they need to proclaim Jesus as Messiah"> Nope. None of that.

There is no discernment. Simple pragmatism rules the day and if something gets results, then it must be right regardless of what God has said.

But then postmodernism has infiltrated the professing church, so to even say "God Has Said" is considered arrogant and narrow minded.

Without God's Map, you have no way of knowing truth from error. We are indeed ripe for the Antichrist.

Blind allegiance? Just blind? Or what?

I do feel sorry for baby sheep who have been quickened within one of these visible ‘churches’ and the first thing they see with their newly opened eyes is a leader who says “I am your shepherd. Trust me. Let me guide you” through sheep blood-stained teeth. They are immature infants and you can’t blame them for not noticing the wolf fur sticking out from the ‘shepherd’s’ clothing. They’re not supposed to know any better. They are supposed to be led to the word of God to eat of it and eat of it and eat of it for it is true sheep food. After they’ve been built up on THAT food they will be able to reject the world’s fast food substitute (WcDonald’s?) which is not healthy at all. It will make them sick.

That accounts for only a very few people. The rest are goats who have been told that they are sheep because someone said “Congratulations! Welcome to the family of God” after they “made a decision for Christ”. They will not discern whether New Age practices are unbiblical or not because they simply don’t care. They are not interested in eating sheep food so they don’t care to compare these aberrant practices with the Bible.

Concerning being called narrow minded – I say “Thank you” to anyone who says that to me just because I’m following Jesus. I just tell them that that is a prereq for walking on the Narrow Path after entering through the Narrow Gate.

I’ve enjoyed your blog so far, Tim. I’m going to look around some more. Now I’ve got to get back to work.
