How Well Can You Follow Instructions?

NOTE: Do NOT read the comments section of this post until after you have taken the test. This is ESSENTIAL as it could spoil the results of your test! This is based on the honor system!

hen I was maybe 12 years old some 42 years ago, my brother came home from Chanute Air Force Base at Rantoul near Champaign Illinois. I remember that he shared a test with a group of us that was given him during a class there. While my brother died 2 years later, one of my fond memories is sitting with a group of family and friends over pizza, taking that test.

While I cannot reproduce it here exactly as it was (this is, after all, electronic format) I have tried to capture the essence of the test. All you are asked to do is follow some simple instructions. Fair enough?

NOTE:

If you are reading this and have not yet taken the test, you have demonstrated that you have not followed instructions. However, you may still take the test. Merely re-read the post and follow the instructions...

Thank you.

Yes! I remember in junior high I had to take one like this...I did not follow instructions well.

I didn't do to well either.

Maybe almost ten people have downloaded the test, but no comments. Not sure what that means. Not a controlled environment. It's best done in a classroom setting.

This is for enjoyment purposes, but I think there is a spiritual lesson to it as well... but that is for later.

Thanks for the comment...

I *think* my parents still have an unused copy of the one my brother brought home. I remember making copies of it at my parent's real estate office in the late 80's. I had a stack of them. Nothing like the original, but then it's mostly sentimentalism.

Actually, not *parents*...dad is gone but you know what I mean...

Interesting. I recall as a little boy my dad saying something about this test. It had a bit of a different twist but essentially the same. My daughter gave a similar test to her 5th grade class and had a 100% failure rate. I am happy to say that because this was somewhat fresh on my mind I passed the test. It certainly makes for a good illustration.

I think so. Maybe even more so in light of how few people are even checking it out. I'm getting hits, but most are blowing this post off. Like I said, 10 or fewer downloads of the file although people are scanning the main blog page. Kind of hard to miss the red lettering in the notice.

You have to wonder; are they saying "I already know I always follow instructions", "I don't CARE if I follow instructions", or what?

So far, no one has just come in and scanned the comments, so I assume that it's a lack of interest. Again, it's obviously not a controlled test.

One could tie "doing God's will God's way" into this little test, under the general title of obedience to God. "How many of us really follow God's instructions?".

Of course, of the 10 or so that downloaded it, I have no idea if they passed it or cheated and threw it out without comment.

At least no one can say I can't have a little fun!

Hi Karen!

Thanks for being honest about it. Again, I failed it when I took it as a kid, as did most all the adults in the room.

It's not a sign of stupidity, although it's a bit revealing as to what we *think* we do and what we actually do.

Which brings up a point I was going to mention to ReformedLawless:

What about those who have "messed up on the first question but didn't submit the comment requested halfway through the test? That would appear to be consciously blowing off an instruction while unwittingly failing to follow instructions???

Nothing personal Karen, just a thought, and I was thinking it over long before you took the test.

It's getting stranger...

Can you imagine all those Airmen standing up at various times, yelling out "I have reached item ten and have demonstrated that I can obediently follow all instructions?"

Wow.

I'll have to go to mom's and see if she still has the master my brother brought home. Should be in a file cabinet.

Oh. Karen, email your address to me. You did win the contest...

I passed with flying colors. I had taken this test for a job I applied for once! It is good and funny to see people talking out loud during the test!!

There won't be any comments from people actually taking the test now, I changed the one instruction from "Post a comment" to "send me an email at...". I didn't think about having to go through the comments first just to post one.

But then, no one has even tried to post a comment from the test... sooo...

Gotta love it.

Tim,
after I finished doing #1 which I should not have done, I remembered that I should have read the whole thing! That is why I didn't go through and do the rest.

Shame on me, though, as I have seen this test before - and still messed up! I think my curiosity for what was written at the top of the post got the best of me!
